Eva Urbanova triumphed in Verdi´s arias ... (Lidové noviny)


Not only tourists were among the vast audience of Prague Proms opening concert performed by CNSO with the soprano Eva Urbanová. The program intended to evoke the atmosphere of Italy, country of birth of Giuseppe Verdi and Ottorino Respighi (whose works were on the program), but also of Maestro Marcelo Rota who was conducting.

An attractive program presented arias and overtures from Verdi´s operas. In the overture to the third Act of La Traviata the orchestra seemed to have mastered the challenges of playing pianissimo from the beginning to the end, as well as their brass section broke through in Nabucco. Urbanová was in brilliant voice. She proved to be familiar both with the lyrical tirades and the dramatic ones. Especially the pianissimos and phrasing were astonishing. In the second half, music lovers in the new terraced auditorium got fulfilled with the hot Italian summer, cicadas and the sea thanks to Respighi´s Pines of Rome…
