The Czech National Symphony Orchestra Presents Its 2027 Concert Season
Oct 31, 2026
The Czech National Symphony Orchestra is entering its 34th season. Under the baton of chief conductor Steven Mercurio, the orchestra will perform works by Antonín Dvořák, Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, Samuel Barber and Johannes Brahms at the Smetana Hall of the Municipal House. As part of the Prague Proms festival, it will welcome Chris Egan and the Jeremy Winston Chorale to Prague.
As always, subscription concerts are on the programme; this time, soprano Golda Zahra and Israeli pianist Alon Kariv will appear as soloists. The ever-popular Hollywood Night and the special, emotionally charged concert Still Together will also feature.
The Czech National Symphony Orchestra traditionally offers its audiences both subscription and special concerts, alongside a varied programme as part of the Prague Proms festival. In 2027, it has two subscription concerts scheduled, both taking place at the Smetana Hall of the Municipal House under the baton of chief conductor Steven Mercurio.
The First Subscription Concert opens with Antonín Dvořák’s Slavonic Dance No. 5 in A major, “Furiant.” Next comes Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No. 1 in B-flat minor, Op. 23, a work that has become the most frequently performed piano concerto of the Romantic era, with Israeli pianist Alon Kariv as soloist. The concert closes with Antonín Dvořák’s Symphony No. 8 in G major, known as the “English” Symphony.
The Second Subscription Concert offers three works representing different forms of orchestral music, from the early 20th century through to the height of Romanticism. The evening opens with Samuel Barber’s Knoxville: Summer of 1915, featuring soprano Golda Zahra, followed by Tchaikovsky’s symphonic poem Francesca da Rimini, before the programme closes with Johannes Brahms’s Symphony No. 1 in C minor.
The Smetana Hall will also host a special concert titled Still Together, dedicated to Czech-Slovak solidarity. The Czech National Symphony Orchestra and The Loop Jazz Orchestra will share one stage, and under the baton of chief conductor Steven Mercurio, will together accompany exceptional guests from both the Czech and Slovak music scenes.
Under the baton of Steven Mercurio, the Prague Proms festival will present the audience's favorite Hollywood Night concert. The program will also feature the concert 100 Voices: Gospel and the Spirit, bringing together a hundred singers from the American Jeremy Winston Chorale. In addition, audiences can look forward to Alan Silvestri: Greatest Movie Themes, in which the Czech National Symphony Orchestra, joined by Chris Egan, will revisit famous melodies from legendary films.
