Poems set to music inspired by biblical stories
(In Czech, surtitles in Czech)
In the Beginning Was the Word: Michal Horáček drew inspiration from the stories of the Old and New Testaments and wrote a collection of poems based on their themes. The narrator of each poem is a biblical hero who shares his joys and hardships with us, the people of the 21st century.
Each poem has its own rhythm, rhyme, and refrain, making them ideal for setting to music. This task was undertaken by leading contemporary composers in the genres of art music and rock. Accompanied by the Czech National Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Steven Mercurio and Ivo Viktorin Sextet, not only Michal Horáček but also a number of his guests will perform arias, ballads, and chansons during this unique evening at the Prague State Opera.
