The opening concert of Altmark Festspiele 2026 promises an exceptional musical experience in the unconventional setting of the industrial hall of the Alstom factory in Stendal. On Saturday, May 16, this unique space will once again be transformed into an impressive concert venue, where the monumental sound of a symphony orchestra will merge with the distinctive atmosphere of steel architecture.

The highlight of the programme will be Sergei Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 2 in C minor, Op. 18, one of the most significant works of the piano repertoire. The solo part will be performed by South Korean pianist Hans H. Suh, an internationally acclaimed artist who has appeared on prestigious stages worldwide and collaborated with leading orchestras and conductors.

The second half of the concert will feature a selection of works by great composers such as Bedřich SmetanaLeonard Bernstein and Edward Elgar, complemented by energetic musical tributes to the legendary bands The Beatles and Queen.

The Czech National Symphony Orchestra will be conducted by Reinhard Seehafer.
