Concert given on Europe Day, dedicated to the European Convention on Human Rights’ “Right to Life”, supported by European Comission.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Congratulations to the organisers of the "Concert for Peace" given on Europe Day, and dedicated to the European Convention on Human Rights’ “Right to Life”.

Since the days of ancient Greece, Music has long been more than what is written on the scores. In the turmoil of today’s conflicts, it is the first step towards the other, an answer for peace, and the breath of our common peace project. I address my gratitude to the Czech National Symphony Orchestra and the talented conductor, Gabriella Carli, for choosing four powerful pieces of the European Musical repertoire, which embody European enlightenment’s values.

Peace, Humanity and Unity, this is the music of Europe.

Tonight, although we do not share the same mother tongues, traditions or beliefs, we will all understand each other, united in the same musical osmosis.

Music, the language of emotions for Emmanuel Kant, is a language of values too, and a vector of mutual understanding. In this spirit, I launched in January 2023 a structured dialogue with the music sector, for culture to remain the polar star of our common European project.

Peace is a concrete act. It is a choice.

This concert directly contributes to this objective.

I wish you a very pleasant Europe Day evening.
